The year 2020 was a challenging time for societies worldwide, including Indonesia. The COVID-19 pandemic brought about various issues and challenges in healthcare, the economy, society, and the environment.

To alleviate the burden on the community, UNDP, through the Restore Towards COVID-19 Resilience (RESTORE) project, supported the Indonesian government in strengthening the healthcare system and economic recovery. This support was carried out through a program called Sustainable Business, in collaboration with its four partners, focusing on circular economy principles and an inclusive and integrated ecosystem approach.

In the mission to disseminate information about the RESTORE program to the public, UNDP entrusted Box Breaker to produce an animated video and four documentary human stories.

To accomplish the given tasks, the Box Breaker team established a workflow to ensure teamwork effectiveness and time efficiency.

In the initial stages of the animation video production, the team brainstormed with the UNDP team to determine the story idea. UNDP provided modules related to RESTORE as discussion materials to determine which aspects should be highlighted. After module analysis and agreement on the story flow between both parties, the Box Breaker team proceeded with scriptwriting and video storyline creation. The process was extensive to produce a compelling and understandable story, but the Box Breaker team successfully navigated it. Subsequently, the graphic design team took over to create the necessary graphic assets. As the graphic assets came together, the motion graphics process commenced to create the animated video.

The process differed slightly in the production of the documentary human stories. UNDP requested Box Breaker to produce videos on RESTORE, Waste Management, Sustainable Business, and Green Economy.

Before starting the production, both teams brainstormed to discuss the storylines and the selection of interviewees for each topic. The agreement was reached, and scriptwriting and storyline creation were carried out. Then, the Box Breaker team contacted each UNDP partner to coordinate schedules and shooting locations.

The alignment between the Box Breaker team and UNDP partners in terms of schedules and locations yielded successful outcomes, including shooting in wet markets in various cities in Indonesia. This required the Box Breaker team to venture into wet markets for optimal results.

The process then moved into the editing phase. The editing team sorted and matched the continuous video footage with the script, and applied color grading, resulting in highly informative and enjoyable documentary videos. The hard work of the Box Breaker team and UNDP team paid off, and the video previews left the UNDP team satisfied.

The production duration for the two types of videos differed significantly due to the varying stages involved. However, the BOX BREAKER team completed them on time and met the client’s expectations.
